Aputure Gigtube – DSLR Live View Finder

Gigtube DSLR Digital Viewfinder
Sometimes you just need to see what your camera sees without looking in the viewfinder, the Aputure Gigtube allows you to do just that.

Gigtube Demo 1The two and a half inch high quality LCD screen on the Aputure Gigtube flips and rotates to allow almost any viewing angle or position for ease of use.

Gigtube Demo 6The large red button underneath the display is the remote shutter button so once you see your perfect shot you can fire the camera right away. Pressing the remote shutter button partially down will also trigger the cameras autofocus so whatever you seeing can stay crystal sharp.

Gigtube Hot ShoeThe Gigtube display has a hotshoe mount so it can be mounted to the camera with the screen flipped down towards you for high or low angle shots.

6' CordThe 3½” x 2½” x 1½” display unit can also be removed from the camera via the six foot extension cord and can be used hand held.

Table Stand 1By using the included table stand the unit can easily be placed on a nearby surface for convenience.

Table Stand 2The included stand also incorporates a standard thread so it can be attached to a nearby light stand for ease of use.

Nikon Pro CableThese units are compatible with any Nikon or Canon camera that has the live view option.

Hi-Quality ScreenThe two and a half inch 230,000-pixel 24-bit LCD display is similar in quality to the ones found on the Canon Rebel XS or Nikon D40.

Gigtube Demo 2The Aputure Gigtube is an innovative device that offers a camera remote with a LCD live view screen built in, that relays the live image from the cameras live view feed NOT a degraded recording of the viewfinder.

Waist Level FinderUse the Gigtube as a modern day waist level finder for you DSLR.

Charger

The Gigtube has an approximate three hour battery life and can be charged via USB or AC, whichever happens to be close by. The unit can also be charged while it’s in use so as not to interrupt a busy shooting schedule.

Do you have a list of compatible Nikon/Canon cameras? Will any camera with LiveView work?

  2. admin says:

Works with just about every Nikon or Canon camera that has the Live View option. The full list is on the Buy Now page, but will add it to this one also. Thank you for pointing that out to me!

  3. Paul says:

Can it be used with a longer extension cable? If so, up to what length?

  4. admin says:

The Gigtube can be used with a longer cable (usually found at most local audio visual stores). We have tried a 25ft cable before with no problems and believe it can be used with a much longer cable, however we have not tried it with anything longer than 25ft yet.

  8. Joel says:

Will there ever be a wireless version? If so, would it require a computer? Wireless, without a computer, would be great.

  9. admin says:

The Gigtube uses the cameras Live View function to operate as a remote viewing screen. The Nikon D100 does not have Live View so the Gigtube will only work as a remote firing trigger.

  10. admin says:

Unfortunately we only have them for the Canon and Nikon camera lines, we are working on adapting these to other camera brands however, so keep checking back for updates!

  15. bosskev says:

Your list does not (yet?) include the Nikon D3s. Is Aputure compatible with the D3s?

  16. admin says:

The Nikon D3s is based off the Nikon D3 and D3x model. Although we have no hands on testing that it will work, the Gigtube for the Nikon D3/D3x should work just fine with the D3s.

  17. admin says:

Hi Joel, we are working on a wireless version but it still has some ways to go in the design phase before it will be ready for release.

  18. admin says:

Hi Lester, the only camera function that can be used off-camera through the Gigtube is the shutter release button.

  19. Lester says:

Thanks for the fast service, I order it on the 10th and got it in the mail on the 12th and I live in Ca. The 5D MkII will not auto focus either on Live Mode but will auto focus without the Live Mode. I did wish that it will turn the video on and off but maybe the next Canon 5D.

  20. Steve says:

A pass-thru connector for the 10-pin Nikon connector would be nice so I could still use my di-GPS unit (di-GPS does offer a pass-thru of their own, but I own a prior model — just saying a pass-thru on any device connecting to the 10-pin would be a good idea).

  23. Dave says:

The price is right, features look great. This really looks fantastic. Too bad our D200 units won’t work with it, huh?

  24. melvyn snelgrove says:

How bright is the screen in sunlight ?
ie: at a wedding on a good day using it as a digital
    Waist level view finder?

  25. admin says:

Hi Dave, the Gigtube uses the cameras Live View function to operate as a remote viewing screen. The Nikon D200 does not have Live View so the Gigtube will only work as a remote firing trigger & review Screen.

  26. Martin says:

I have a 40D positioned 25ft away. What extension cables and connectors do I buy? Your purchase page does not offer the 6ft extension cable that comes in the kit. Do you sell them and if so what is the part number and price for the 40D?

  27. admin says:

Hi Martin, so far we do not offer the 6ft extension cable by itself. Longer cables can be bought at most any audio visual retail store (Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.)

  28. Cliff says:

    Hi,
Very nice product! I am assuming there would be normal operation using my SB800 flash unit on the D90 hotshoe while using the Gigtube remote.

    Thanks!
    Cliff

  29. admin says:

    Hi Cliff,
Yes it will, the gigtube will act just like any remote and fire the D90 which should in turn fire the flash as normal.

  30. Juan says:

Do the Gigtube works with Canon G10 only as a remote viewing screen?

  31. admin says:

    Hi Juan,
The Gigtube will show whatever is being sent out through the video out feed of the camera. Unfortunately i do not have any Canon G10s here to try it with, so i don’t know if it will act as a remote viewing screen or a review unit (only show what is taken after the shot is made). Hope this helps, please let me know if there is anything we can do for you, thanks!

Inquiring about other Aputur remotes seen on main web-site, such as one to use on Nikon D70’s and D300’s …….are those available to view on your site along with price information?
    Thanks,
    Jay

  33. admin says:

    Hi Jay,
The Gigtube will work on the Nikon D300 & D300s with no problem and can be found on the purchase page. The Gigtube will only work on the Nikon D70 & D70s as a review unit unit only (show the image after its taken) as that particular model does not have the live-view function.

  34. marsha says:

Hi, I have a cannon 5d, will it work with that model?
    thanks,
    Marsha

  35. michael says:

I scanned the comments and did not see this answer, will there be a wifi or wireless version coming? I use Pocket Wizards for remote firing but would prefer the live view function, mounting cameras on stage rigging, ceilings, cliffs, for aerials etc. But it seems these all require wireless versions.

  36. admin says:

    Hi Michael,
Yes there is a wireless version coming, it is in production right now and should be available for purchase sometime in July 2010.

  37. admin says:

    Hi Marsha,
The Aputure Gigtube will work with the Canon 5D mark II with full capability. However if you have the older Canon 5D (not markII) the Gigtube will only work as a remote trigger with review (shows image after its shot) function. The Gigtube relies on the cameras live view ability to work as a remote viewing device, the older Canon 5D does not have live view.

  38. pista says:

I have a Canon 5d MkII, can I turn the VIDEO on and off, while recording, with the remote ?????????????????????????????????????????????????

  39. admin says:

    Hi Pista,
No, the red button on the Gigtube is tied to the shutter button of the camera. The Canon 5D MrkII uses a button on the back of the camera to turn recording on and off, this is something Canon did instead of using the shutter button.

  40. John says:

I have a Canon 5D MkII I use for astrophotography. Does the gigtube have a timer for the shutter release where I can take a specific number of photos for a given exposure lenght. For example 10 photos of 2 minutes each. Can a timer remote be used at the same time?

  41. admin says:

    Hi John,
The Gigtube does not have a built-in intervalometer, however a separate remote can be used with the Gigtube do achieve this (plug the separate remote into the cameras remote port instead of the remote section of the Gigtubes y-cable). We do plan on carrying a intervalometer remote through this website once we get them in (also from Aputure).

  43. Rick Raney says:

Will the gigtube work with the canon GL-1 camcorder as a viewing device?

  44. Shawn says:

Does it have a shutter lock on it for bulb exposures?

  45. admin says:

    Hi Shawn,
The Gigtube does not have a shutter lock itself, you’d have to stand there and hold the button down. The other alternative is to combine the Aperture Gigtube with the Aperture Coworker (found here), have the Gigtube attached with the video cord only and use the shutter lock on the Coworker to trigger and time the camera on bulb. This type of setup is very effective for astro-photography as the camera is usually at a odd angle to see the viewfinder very well. Hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you!

  46. Kenneth says:

i’m using Nikon D40, would it works for D40?

  47. admin says:

    Hi Kenneth,
The Gigtube uses the cameras Live View function to operate as a remote viewing screen. The Nikon 40D does not have Live View, so the Gigtube will only work as a remote firing trigger & review screen.

  48. Ian Pack says:

Will the Gigtube allow me to view live video when using a Canon 5D MkII in HD movie mode? I want to use the camera on a jib/crane.

Can the Gigtube lead be extended? What is the length of the lead supplied?

    Many thanks

    Ian

  49. admin says:

    Hi Ian,
The Gigtube will work with the Canon 5D Mark II in full video mode. The extension cable supplied with the kit is 6 feet long, but longer ones can be found and purchased. We have tested up to 25 feet before with no latency issues, longer than that can be used but the latency is untested. Hope this helps, any other questions please let us know!
