When you say “Buy One Gigtube Wireless and Get One Gigtube Wired – Free!!”, can I get the free wired Gigtube for a different model DSLR and how do I request that in my order?

    2. admin says:

      Hi Mike,
Sure, either make a note in the comments section during the checkout process, or send an email with the information to info@photoxgear.com.

For the 550D, u say : “When using Gigtube Wireless with Canon 550D, an additional accessories must be used: ‘AV Adaptor’ (included in package) and original ‘AV Cable’ (provided with camera) are necessary for operation.”

Is the cable needed for operation, meaning it’s not wireless anymore? Or does it function without cable to view image in monitor and to activate controls? If so, what is the cable needed for?

What’s this about a “Buy One Gigtube Wireless and Get One Gigtube Wired – Free!!”?

Also, I have a Canon 40D plus an Olympus E-P2 and E-5. Can I switch the Aputure back and forth between these three cameras via switching connection cables?

    5. admin says:

      Hi Dan,
That was a promotion we were running during the 2010 holiday season. Yes, the Gigtube for different cameras are identical, only the connection cable is what changes. For your setup you’d want to buy one kit and one spare cable; on the Canon you’d use the 3C cable and on the Olympus the 3L cable. hope this helps, if there is anything please let us know!

    6. Mark says:

I’m curious why there are so many different Gigtube models for the various Canon platforms that mostly share the same inputs? and what are the chances that if I get the Gigtube for 5D Mk II, that it will be compatible with the 5D Mk III when it comes out… Thanks

    7. Mike D says:

With the camera set to LiveView how to you avoid overheating the sensor (which degrades image quality)?
I have a 5D MarkII and a 50D, is there a way to you use one Gigtube on either or must I choose which camera I want this feature for?
      Thanks.

    8. admin says:

      Hi Mark,
There are various Gigtube models for both Canon and Nikon because, depending on the model of camera, the remote trigger plug or video output plug is slightly different. For example: the Canon 5d uses a mono output jack for video whereas the 5D MarkII uses a stereo output jack; the Canon 7D uses the Canon Pro 3-Pin remote plug where the Canon T2i uses a stereo output jack and both of them (7D & T2i) use a proprietary mini-hdmi video output plug. The different combinations require different connection cables to the camera for the Gigtube to work properly. Although we have not seen the specs on the 5D MarkIII yet, we suspect the 5D MarkII cable should work on it. If not, you do not need to purchase a whole new kit, just the correct connection cable to use the existing Gigtube on the new camera. Hope this helps, if there is anything else please let us know. Thanks and happy shooting!

    9. admin says:

      Hi Mike,
For the overheating, just be aware of how long your cameras live view is turned on for. The Gigtube won’t overheat the camera anymore than if the Gigtube wasn’t there, so make sure to give your camera a break every now and then during shooting. Luckily for those with a dual camera system the main part of the Gigtube kit is identical no matter which camera you have, the only thing that changes from kit to kit is the connection cable for the specific camera. So to use the Gigtube on two or more camera systems, all you would need to do is purchase and change out the connection cable for the other system. In your case Mike, you would want to get the kit for the Canon 5D MarkII (GW3CII Gigtube model) and the spare connection cable for the Cano 50D (3C-CC Cable Model) or vice versa. Hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do for you please let us know. Thanks and happy shooting!

I really like this product, is there a model compatable with the Nikon D70? If not do you know of a similar product that is? Thanks John

    11. admin says:

Hi John, The Gigtube uses the cameras Live View function to operate as a remote viewing screen. The Nikon D70 does not have Live View, so the Gigtube will only work as a remote firing trigger & review screen. Hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do for you please let us know. Thanks and happy shooting!

    12. Pavol says:

I would like to buy Aputure Gigtube Wireless Kit, but i own Nikon D700 and Nikon D7000. Im wondering if I have to buy both Aputure Gigtube Wireless Kits for each one or I can buy just one with different connection cables for each camera.

    13. admin says:

Hi Pavol, You would want to purchase one full kit (for either the D700 or D7000) and the connection cable for the other. This will allow you to just swap the cables out when changing cameras. Hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do please let us know! Thanks and happy shooting!

    14. Andy says:

I see no information on the distance one can go between transmitter and receiver. Does the auto-focus work on a Nikon D-300s in the live-view mode? Also, if I order, where is it shipped from, where is the information about ordering, all I see is a paypal link?

      Thanks, Andy

    15. admin says:

      Hi Andy,
The stated distance between transmitter and receiver is about 100 meters (~300 feet), but this is in ideal situations. It really depends on certain factors such as how much concrete your trying to go through and what radio interference may be in the area. The auto focus will work on all Nikon cameras. Most orders ship from Waukegan Illinois USA and usually ship out within one business day of the order being placed. Hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do please let us know, thanks!

What is the warranty. If it does not work the way you say can we get our money back?

    17. Buddy McTureous says:

When using the wireless set up, gigtube, how would you set up your Canon flash ?

    18. admin says:

      Hi Buddy,
All of our products have a 24 month (2-year) warranty covering normal wear-and-tear, and a 14-day (2-week) return/exchange policy (from the time you receive it). So you have 2 weeks to play with the item(s) and make sure it will work for you. Hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do please let us know, thanks!

    19. M Long says:

If I order today will I get the Aputure Gigtube Wireless by next Friday, June 10, to Dayton, Ohio

    20. admin says:

Most likely; if you order before 12:00-noon central time the order will ship same day. Standard shipping is USPS Priority Mail which has a 2-3 day delivery time. Unfortunately this is not a guaranteed delivery estimate as the post office can sometimes take longer than normal, but delivery is usually within 2-3 days. Hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do please let us know, thanks!

    21. Buddy McTureous says:

Still waiting on answer about how to set up your canon flash.

    22. admin says:

      Hi Buddy,

Without having the manuals for your camera/flash combo, knowing whether your using the flash on-camera or off or what stylistic effect you are going for, we can’t really answer your question satisfactorily. The camera will fire a flash that is put in the hot shoe or plugged in via pc socket, or a remote flash transmitter (such as the SMDV MySlave system) if using the flash off camera.

The Gigtube’s wireless transmitter does not necessarily need to be in the hot shoe of the camera, the transmitter has a cold shoe built into it for ease of use, if the hot shoe is needed for a flash the transmitter can hang down from the camera or be attached to the tripod stand for instance. Hope this helps, if there is anything else we can do please let us know, thanks!

I am looking at getting a canon 40d soon I have looked at the instruction manual for the 40D and in the custom function menu
      Reference to
      Important notice page 15

      Canon 5D MK 2 / 50D / 40D / 1DMK1v / 1 Ds MK 3 / 1D MK 3
Not above cameras can auto focus by pressing AF-ON button

Tip when using above cameras with GW 2
Using min mode enables one to auto focus

There is a custom function that allows you to enable AF in live view. It is C.FN III-6 in the custom function menu. Once you enable this you will have auto focus, when you push the shutter button half way down the screen will blank out for a second as the focus screen drops down to establish a focus. Then live view will come back up after focusing.

Is there any possibility to find out if GW 2 will trigger auto focus from the
Live view Remote Control using this set up
      Many thanks

I have the wireless system for Nikon D300s. I wanted to buy a different cable to use it with my new D-800. ( I would guess that it’s a cable with a HDMI connector) Please advise on how to purchase this cable.

    25. admin says:

Hi Andy, The cable used for the D800 is still the same cable used for the D300/D700/D3/D3x, which is a different cable than the one used for the D300s. The cable you are looking for is the GW1N-CC which can be found on the Gigtube purchase page (http://www.photoxgear.com/2010/11/gigtube-wireless-purchase/). Aputure has not released an updated cable with HDMI connection for the Nikon series. Hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you, thanks and happy shooting!

    26. Francis says:

      bonjour,

      CDT
      Francis.

    27. admin says:

Hi Francis, Sadly no; Aputure does not have a cable at the moment that uses the HDMI output from the camera, but we do expect one at some point in the future.
